Westwood in Bogalusa
~Each year Westwood teams with another church and sends out a group to help those in need. This year we went to Bogalusa!~
2009 was the second year we went to
Bogalusa to help with damage done by Hurricane Katrina. This year we went with about 80 people full of many different ages, beginning in Junior High and extending up into the wisdom of the mid-eighties. This year for the first time we had people from our church plant – RedArrow Ministries –join us. It was a blessing not only to help those down south, but also to grow closer as two church communities closely linked |
This year we stayed at Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked with Pastor Marcus of Emmaunuel Baptist Church to set up work sites in the community. Our group works hard to complete many projects, including painting, roofing, hanging new drywall, tearing down destroyed parts of buildings, rebuilding entire rooms and porches, and anything else that is needed to enable people to live in their houses again without fear. About 10 families’ homes are fixed each year that we go down. |
There are also community building activities, free carwashes, carry-out service for groceries to the car, and the big community carnival that the team throws to show the community love and support from their brothers and sisters in Christ to the north. In all these things, Westwood prays that the light of Christ is shown to those who may have lost hope after their homes have been so severely damaged or being taken advantage of by others claiming to help. Love God, love people, pure and simple with no exceptions! ?xml:namespace> |
